I hope this message finds you well. First and foremost, thank you for building such an incredible platform that empowers businesses like mine to grow and succeed globally. Shopify has been instrumental in helping us connect with customers around the world, and the Shopify Markets feature has opened up amazing opportunities to sell internationally.
However, I am writing to express a critical concern on behalf of the Malaysian merchant community. Currently, Shopify Payments is not available in Malaysia (i have waited 8 years since 2017 and shopify kept saying it will be supported soon without a timeline), and this creates significant challenges for us in reaching our full potential as global sellers. One of the key issues is that international visitors to our stores often abandon their carts when they cannot check out in their local currencies. This drastically increases cart abandonment rates, directly impacting our ability to convert international traffic into sales.
Shopify Payments is essential for enabling seamless local currency transactions, which is a vital component of creating a frictionless shopping experience. Without it, we are forced to rely on third-party payment gateways, which not only complicate operations but also prevent us from fully leveraging the benefits of Shopify Markets. This lack of access makes it harder to build trust and confidence with international customers, which is crucial in today’s competitive e-commerce landscape.
Malaysia is a rapidly growing e-commerce hub with a thriving community of entrepreneurs. By enabling Shopify Payments here, you would not only empower countless merchants to scale their businesses internationally but also address a key pain point that could significantly improve conversion rates for stores in this region.
On behalf of the Malaysian Shopify community, I kindly and urgently request that you prioritize the inclusion of Shopify Payments in Malaysia. It would be a game-changer for our businesses, allowing us to provide a better shopping experience for our customers while maximizing the potential of Shopify’s powerful ecosystem.
