Feedback for your online store from the community
Hi there,
We have started with Shopify in May 2023, we moved over from Wordpress as Shopify has better Inventory, Management and Shipping Options.
Sales increased from May tot Sepember which was good. Our average monthly sales was about R250k ZAR, which is exceptionally good for a company which online started in November 2022.
Since October 2023, and even now with BF, our sales have decreased. We now even spend more on Facebook Ads as we did in May to September.
We usually got about R8k ZAR average per day. If we are lucky now, we get R1k ZAR thus our marketing costs are more than the sales.
We are starting to think its the website, maybe to much popups with the cross sells, and upsells? Maybe the layout, maybe to busy?
Would appreciate any feedback.
We also have a very unique product, so people will like it!
Hi @tapputioilsza,
I took a moment to look over your website, and I must say, it's quite impressive. Your concern about the pop-ups for cross-sells and upsells is valid, but from what I can see, they don't seem overly distracting for buyers. It's always a delicate balance to provide enough prompts for additional purchases without overwhelming the customer.
Regarding the drop in sales since October 2023, even with increased spending on Facebook Ads, it's worth considering some broader factors. One significant change around that time was Shopify's introduction of the one-page checkout. Some stores have noted a decrease in sales following this change. It could be worthwhile to experiment with the checkout process on your site. Shopify offers the option to switch back to the traditional three-page checkout, which might positively impact your sales. You can find details on how to adjust your checkout layout here: Shopify Checkout Settings.
It's also a good idea to continually test and tweak different elements of your website and marketing strategy to see what resonates best with your audience. Your unique product is definitely a strength, so ensuring that your website and marketing efforts highlight this uniqueness will be key. Keep an eye on customer feedback and analytics to guide these adjustments.
Best of luck with your continued adjustments and efforts!
Hi Tapputioilsza,
This is Amee from Gojiberry - Shopify Survey & Feedback App.
I like what you offer in your store and I think your store already looks quite good! I took a look at your store and have a few suggestions that will help increase conversion rate:
1. Detail pictures. I have noticed your black Friday products (maybe new?) don't have a lot of detailed pictures. Would be great to add some more pictures since these products are so prominent.
2. Call to action button. Add an add-to-cart button or any call-to-action button underneath each product.
3. Adding a blog. Seems like there are lots of stories behind your creation! Giving useful advice or information (like how to choose your scent) etc would help draw in the right audience.
4. Connect with your physical stores. I noticed you sell offline as well. I always advise shop owners to include a card insert of their online store whenever they sell a product offline. In case the customer likes your product, they don't have to travel back to the physical store for more.
5. Ask your customers! (Most effective for increasing conversion) Ask where your converting customers are coming from. While facebook ads are good, maybe the effectiveness has shifted over time. You can easily do so with a post-purchase survey app, and reward your customers with coupons/points to keep them coming back again. Once you find out your strongest marketing channel, focus more effort and money on that.
Hope this helps!

The Ultimate 12 Best Practices to Growing Your Shopify Store
Hi @tapputioilsza,
I've visited your store and I must say, I'm quite impressed. Your store has an excellent collection of images and loads quickly, offering a smooth and engaging user experience. Well done on this!
Regarding your concern, you have many visitors but no sales yet. Hence, the core solution to help you is making changes to implement CRO (conversion rate optimization) for your store. With our experiences in building pages, here are some suggestions that might help you:
1. You might need to change the current FOMO strategy.
Leveraging FOMO feelings to encourage customers to buy is a good approach. However, the goal on the product page is to keep the customer on the page long enough to complete a purchase. Therefore, you should avoid leading them to other products by showing FOMO pop up. Instead, you might add a line of real time visitor data or a counting down timer next to “add to cart” button.
2. Add a section about recommended products before review section
Positioning product recommendations before reviews is effective because it provides a personalized browsing experience through more options. Moreover, it is also a good approach for cross-selling and up-selling strategy.
3. Leverage 5 star reviews
You have a lot of great reviews from customers. Please take it as your advantages, expose them to your visitors and gain their trust. For example, you can add a review badge near the product name.
I hope my advice can help you improve your store conversion and sales.
Happy selling!
