Re: Tricked into opening store

Why are my Shopify payments on hold without explanation?

While I love the high converting checkout system of Shopify, I honestly feel like I was tricked into opening a store on the platform. Having a high converting checkout, loses its glam when you've paid for a Shopify subscription, taken the time to setup a store, have sent your followers to your store, generate a couple thousand in sales... just to find out that you've put in all that hard work, for what feels like nothing. Why? Because two days before my first payment, my payments got put on hold, and rather then just being told a straight answer as to why it was put on hold, was given three different reasons for why it was put on hold, from different support advisors. Given false dates on when to expect the hold to come off.

So I paid money, to setup a shopify store, just to have my funds put on hostage, without being told why? How is that professional, or even acceptable? And as a new Shopify user, I'm not supposed to be concerned where my money is? Because no one seemed to care up until today, and even then I still haven't been told a reason or an expectancy date. Again, how is that acceptable? Do you think my followers, who are my customers that have paid their money, and recieved what they paid for, would be happy knowing they paid their money and the creator hasn't recieved the proceeds? I'm quite sure if I was to make a post, to my 124k followers, and say to all the people who paid in the past week, that I haven't recieved a penny from the money they've sent, and that Shopify has the money hostage, without giving any reason or expectancy date... I'm quite sure ALOT of them will want to get their money back. And to be honest, I wouldn't fault them. They didn't spend their money in an effort to line Shopifys pockets, they paid in an effort to support a Creator as a fan. Neither I, nor them expected that the funds wouldn't make it me... as it clearly stated my information was verified and that my store was good to go live. One support agent claimed they had to verify my bank.... it doesn't take a week to verify a bank account that you ALREADY verified. All the game playing, and eluding as to what they're actually doing with my funds, honestly makes me feel like I was tricked into starting a store with them. I would of never invested money and time into starting a project with a company, just to have said company start acting shady after accumulating sales. What reason do I have to not feel cheated? I haven't been given an honest accurate answer until today, and even that answer didn't answer what was going on. The support person today was just kind enough to have looked at the situation as a whole, and completely understand why I was upset... and  escalated the situation. But who knows if that will even solve my problem. I did the silly thing and trusted them and kept sending my followers even after the hold, making the mistake of thinking they would treat me like an actual paying customer. Instead I continued to send my followers to my store for another 4 days, generating probably another thousand dollars in sales just to be lied to and given the run around, and not paid. So finally this morning, I stopped sending my followers here and have opted for another gateway, that atleast pays once daily. But will I ever get my money from here?  I don't know. I'm not feeling very trusting of them at the moment, and for good reason. This situation has me pretty stressed out, so I intend on venting about it daily, right here on the forum until it gets resolved... so hopefully someone else doesn't go thru the same thing, as it's ultimately not fair. In the end, if they try to keep my money, I will have my followers all chargeback... and I'm pretty confident they will if they find out what's really going on with the money they spent.

This is a bit terrifying as we are preparing to embark on the same adventure as you.  Needless to say, we will be very proactive in regards to expecting our funds in a timely manner. Wow.

Well, I will provide an update. After a week of being left in limbo, and
payments put on hold... they have finally gotten back to me, and are
releasing my money. I'm thankful that they finally decided to release my
money, but it doesn't change the way I feel... I feel like they treated me
like a criminal.
