Why does my newly launched website show as 'untitled' in Google search?

After a year and a half of devolving my product, logo and website, I finally launched yesterday. And much to my surprise my site is listed as untitled and no favicon next to the listing!!!!! What, are you kidding me. So I poked around a little bit and some solutions suggested verifying your site with google search console and submitting your site map, I'm nota computer guy, but i figured it out and completed it, and still the same results on google. I'm beyond frustrated and a frankly a bit disgusted. After all these hours of work and now my site is UNTITLED. Plus, after I tried to find a solution, I found out that this is pretty common problem with Shopify 2.0.  And yes, all the back end stuff has been filled out. Can ANYONE help, I'm besides myself.

Thanks!

This is what my listing looks like!

Hey @msj070

Can you share your URL? I've seen something like this when using quick view and Google is indexing the quick view URL which uses JavaScript to display.

Have you had any luck? Or do you know where I can go to find a solution.  I just checked and it's still listed as Untitled.

Thanks

You have two homepage links showing up in Google. The first looks correct and links directly to your homepage. The second looks like a Google query as shown in the below screenshot. Other pages in Google show a title and description (see below). It looks like you had a version of you homepage indexed before you were ready and Google is slowly updating the results.

While looking at your site, I see all the necessary pieces including a title, meta description, correct robots.txt file, nothing that shows to block the homepage from indexing, no quick view links, and website structured data on the homepage. Other structured data could be improved, but overall it's not going to impact this specific issue.

If I had to guess, it's likely just because your site is new and Google needs time to properly crawl and index the pages.

I wouldn't do anything and give it some time.

THANKS SOOO MUCH!! The Shopify tech just said  "Contact Google"  but no specifics like you.  I'll just hang tight for a bit and see what happens.  So do you think eventually it'll show my logo and site name and description as I have listed in my Preferences Page on Shopify. Thanks Again!!!!

Hi, I know you don’t work for shopify, but I really need some help, and shopify is NO help at all, and I have no idea how to deal with Google, plus you really seem to know what you’re doing. I’m just a guy trying to sell some drumstick holders, and it was all I could do just to get my site put together and I really need some help.

Google sent me some emails last week saying pages were not indexing properly so I went to Search Console & started clicking things and apparently, I started the validation process. They just recrawled it and now it’s worse! They originally said about 50 pages weren’t indexing properly now it says over 125 aren’t and it’s still showing up as (Untitled) with no description or logo. However, it seems like Bing, Yahoo, & Duck-Duck-Go have it listed mostly correct - the site name & logo are fine but in the description, it shows the ‘Custom” page of my site? But for some reason, it’s a total mess on Google.  It doesn’t make sense to me since all the search engines are using my same shopifly site to get info from?

I know you are a business owner and not a shopify employee and that you run an SEO company, but I was wondering if you do small fix issues like what I’m dealing with for a nominal fee or if you would know who I could contact to help me. I’m just trying to get my site to list so I can see if I can sell any of these things, and I just don’t know how to do it. I clumped together a few screenshots so you could see what’s happening.

Thanks so much!

Hey @msj070

What you're seeing in Search Console is completely normal and nothing to stress about. Your store is still VERY new in the grand scheme of things and it takes time for Google and other search engines to update. Search engines all have unique algorithms, so you can't compare your results (or lack thereof) on Google vs Bing vs Duck Duck Go, and so on. Yes, the data all comes from the same place generally (your Shopify store), but they may also pull other resources into their GIANT database to determine what results to show and when. You can't compare them apples to apples. Its not that simple and if it was, showing up in search results would be way easier.

As for your questions on indexing, again this all looks normal to me. I recommend you read through this article that specifically talks about the Shopify specific indexing "issues" Search Console will raise flags on and which ones can be ignored (most of them).

When I first did a site search for your store on Feb 1st, you had 7 results. Doing it today, Feb 9th, I'm seeing 23 results (see below). Site searches may not show all your pages so take this with a grain of salt, but more pages are getting indexed every day. I also don't see any Untitled results anymore. Please trust me when I say to give it time. I know it's hard, but that's how search engines work. Nothing happens quickly and as a new store, it's going to take time for Google to understand what you're all about.
