Re: Store Feedback - Low Conversion Rate

Why is my conversion rate low despite high daily visits?

I get around 30-50 daily visits with a sale happening roughly every other day. The majority of my traffic comes from Pinterest as I am a verified merchant. I opened my store back in February. Can you take a look at my website and suggest ways/improvements to convert more visitors into buyers?  Thanks in advance

Hey @Teacherjeanell.

Thanks for reaching out.

I appreciate the context that you have shared with us as that is very helpful! Looking into your online store, I noticed that you do not have a Contact Us page linked to the footer or header navigation. Without having a Contact Us page available for your visitors, they may be deterred from making a purchase. I would suggest adding your contact information to allow your customers to reach out to you with any questions about the products or their purchase.

You have beautiful products in your store, by the way! What do you think about including a slideshow section on the online store homepage as the first section under the headers navigation menu? This help you showcase your available products to your visitors as soon as they load into the store. With that being said, this is a great way to strengthen your brand and allow your visitors to learn more about the products and business without having to scroll. For example, you could include your favorite product or best seller in the slides.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Ollie!

The 'Contact Us' page is currently located as a drop-down item within the 'Home' tab. Should I move it to the main menu? I will go ahead and include it in the footer menu.
I'm using a hero slideshow that directs users to my top three collections. I've included one image per collection. Would it be better to feature one product from each collection? I have about 300 products and still have about 600 more to add. I'm a bit hesitant to switch to showcasing individual products since I have so many.

Hey @Teacherjeanell.

Thanks for the quick response!

I would suggest having the Contact option displayed on the header as its own category. The reason for this is because when a customers is attempting to contact a business, they will typically look for a Contact Us option on the homepage and having it under the Home menu could cause it to be overlooked.

With that being said, the slideshow section is looking great! I believe showcasing the collection image would be best in this case - since you have so many wonderful products available in your store. I feel like it would be best to generally allow your visitors what each collection contains.

based off a quick view, your flow from HP to product has too many clicks. You want to get customers to product as quickly as possible. At the moment, a customer goes HP > Category (collection PLP) > subcategory PLP > Product PDP. The subcategory page I looked at only had like 6 products on it. It feels like you can eliminate a level.

Also, there’s no curation or education on the homepage. Can you curate products based on age group, learning styles, gift ideas, etc? Can you add blog articles to educate your customer?

Hi @Teacherjeanell ,

This is Kate from PageFly - Shopify Landing Page Builder app.

Congrats on your store! Your store looks so pretty with color panels and high-quality images, and I can tell you've put in much effort. I understand that building a beautiful website is not simple. From my CRO expertise, I'd love to give you my suggestions that might be helpful for your home page:

1. Change the first Hero Image

The hero image holds great importance in creating a positive first impression on visitors. Based on my experience, the hero image should be simple and avoid using distracting elements and clutter that may divert attention from the main content. Therefore, I highly recommend that you change it as soon as possible, as it might affect the bounce rate.

2. Add hover state for CTA buttons

The hover state gives us feedback that we can interact with that element. By putting your cursor over the button with the mouse, the state is hover. You can change the color of the button when you hover the mouse to CTA buttons, that could be the contrast color to the color of the button in the normal state.

3. Add Add-To-Cart button for Product List

Sometimes, a relatively minor change can have a significant impact on your store, such as adding an 'Add to Cart' button in the 'Featured Products' list. By doing this, you can guide your visitors to where they can make a purchase decision without the struggle of searching for the 'Add to Cart' button.

You can refer to how a well-know brand such as Colourpop applying this:

4. Use reviews or social proof

Testimonials or ratings always play an important role in building trust with your customers. I bet that your customers will be more trusted when seeing this and no more hesitation to click buy one.

Here is the example:

5. Prepare for the upcoming shopping holidays

This time is suitable for you to prepare for the upcoming shopping events like Halloween, Black Friday, Cyber Monday (BFCM), Christmas,.... Plan ahead, and you'll likely see positive campaign results. Here are a few recommendations to consider:

  • Utilize social media to expand the reach of your promotional campaign by sharing promotion posts or running ads.
  • Design holiday-themed landing pages to highlight your featured products, promotions, and campaign details. Aim for uniqueness so that visitors can easily recall your page.
  • Offer exclusive discounts to your clients, making them feel even more special when purchasing your products.

I hope you find these suggestions helpful for optimizing your website's conversion rate. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, feel free to reach out. Wishing you all the best with your online venture!

Best regards,

Kate | PageFly team

Thanks Kate! These are some really good suggestions.

My responses are below:

1. Change the first Hero Image

The first image features one of my top sellers on the site. Typically, visitors land on a product page, click Shop All, then click a Collection. They rarely see the homepage, so I am open to changing it. Do you suggest a solid background for the first slide and then feature products in slides two and three?

2. Add hover state for CTA buttons

I'm using the Impulse theme and don't see an option for adding a secondary color. The only option is to display the second product image when hovering over it. I will contact the developer to find out how to implement this feature.

3. Add Add-To-Cart button for Product List

The only option is to add a quick shop feature. This feature includes a mini product window with an add-to-cart button. I will reach out to the developer....

4. Use reviews or social proof

I still need to get reviews on the site; however, I have over 10K reviews on my Teachers Pay Teachers shop. I need to find out if I can use those reviews on my website. I included a link to my TpT shop on the main menu for social proof. A few visitors click the link to my TpT store and purchase on TpT instead of my website. Eventually, I'd like to remove the link to my TpT site so that buyers remain on the site.

5. Prepare for the upcoming shopping holidays

I will definitely work on this!! Also, I have started collecting email addresses, but I need to be more consistent with sending emails.

Hi @Teacherjeanell ,

You're utmost welcome 😊. I'm so glad that my suggestions can be your solution.

1. Change the first hero image

Instead of replacing another image, you can create an overlay color for the original image. Here's an example:

2. Use website builders to help you easily add an 'Add-To-Cart' button or change the color of the CTA button

Based on my experience, besides the available themes, you can consider using various website builders that offer seamless elements, making it easy for you to design without any coding required. Some options include PageFly, Shogun, and more.

3. Create a section for social proof

Instead of adding reviews to every product, you can create a specific section for reviews, similar to the following example. This is also an excellent way to establish your credibility.

Those are my suggestions for your page. Hope this helps for you.

Best regards,
