Why is my website traffic not moving past the home page?

Hi I've been running a new store, paying for ads and lots of traffic over the past month and I've noticed from google analytics that 70-80% of traffic seems to stop at the home page and virtually no one continuing to look at products.

Any help or advice would be really appreciated!

Hi @Calrod,

It's Kate here from the PageFly team, the Shopify Page Builder app.

It's great to see you have come this far. Your store is very clean and clear. However, I have some suggestions to further optimize your store's bounce rate and engagement rates.

  • Option 1: Optimize your homepage and run ads directly to it.
  • Option 2: Pick one or a couple of leading products to create a dedicated landing page to showcase them.

Option 1. Optimize your homepage.

Homepage:

1. Optimize the hero banner.

The hero banner is wide and makes it hard for visitors to quickly grasp what you're selling and read your messages. You can consider moving the icon social proofs below the hero banner. Then, create texts + a background video. This way, your message and CTA button will remain sticky while the video can still be played in the background.

2. It would be great if you could include some images of your products in real life in this section.

PageFlyKate_1-1712114175455.png

3. Optimize the UX/UI

The CTA is not visible unless hovered over precisely. Consider making it responsive across all hoverable areas.

PageFlyKate_2-1712114175736.png

4. Showcase your products within the first 2-3 scrolls, placing them before their reviews. The longer visitors have to scroll to find products, the greater the chance they may leave the site. Typically, a new visitor will stay on your page for only 1-3 seconds, so make those moments count to encourage them to stay.

PageFlyKate_3-1712114175601.png

5. Just one more suggestion: Create a product highlight section on your homepage. This should feature either your leading product, the latest addition, or one that you particularly want to emphasize. For example:

PageFlyKate_4-1712114175358.png

Option 2. Create a dedicated landing page.

Step 1: Select a product or a collection of products for which to create a landing page.

Step 2: Design a hero banner and optimize the announcement bar to ensure it stands out and resonates deeply with visitors.

PageFlyKate_5-1712114175781.png

Step 3: Create a product list section, showcasing all your leading products:

PageFlyKate_6-1712114175408.png

Step 4: Include only the ESSENTIAL information, such as highlights of the product material, benefits, and the best features of your swimwear.

Step 5: Add reviews

I'm confident these tips will enhance your store and boost conversion rates. I wish you the best in your endeavors. Keep up the great work!

The design is clean which is great - BUT are you doing PPC? Search ads? Etc? Based on that your landing page (in this case the home page) needs to have certain elements. In general it's great that you are starting off with features of the product but that's NOT enough - you NEED to also describe a major problem you are solving (and yeh it doesn't have to be major - even as simple as no more wet shorts, or whatever is a major issue to your customer) just make it sound BIG in a simple heading, then offer your solution (product line), make the problem sound BIG, and your solution sounds big too.

PEOPLE will remember you for your BENEFITS though, so you have a product, it has FEATURE X, and because of this feature they get BENEFIT Y (more swim time? No more watery smell? Better performance? Just examples here) that benefit is also kind of your solution and WHAT people will remember you for.

Okay all that for what? To entice the SIGN UP! YOU need a lead capture form to capture emails, in exchange offer a giveaway; ENTER EMAIL to enter to win a FREE pair of X. Or Email for a chance to win FREE x. The point? The CTA needs to be FREE.

Why collect emails? Now you can retarget a customer for free over and over, why? Because most ppl don't buy day 1, they take a week - so you also can keep reaching out to them over the week with value emails, discount emails, testimonial emails etc.

If you want a really detailed step by step breakdown of not just your homepage but what your ads/marketing should look like as well reach out @ www.roastmysalesfunnel.com

It is WELL WORTH optimizing your funnel BEFORE spending on ads!

Follow up, why you need a lead capture form? All that traffic is leaving and burning your ad spend. You need to capture as much data as possible even if it isn't a sale, an email of a user who has shown interest is OH SO valuable not just to NOW make that sale with automated email campaigns but when you go to sell your business that data will have value then too.

Hi @Calrod

Thanks for reaching out to the community. This is MooseDesk - All-in-one Shopify Helpdesk App.

Firstly, congratulations on your new store! Your store looks stunning and I can tell you have put a lot of effort into building it 🙂

However, it's not uncommon for new stores to experience a slow start. To improve your store and make it more convincing to potential customers, I have some recommendations for your Homepage. Please kindly check them out:

1. Optimize Hero Section:

I noticed that your current hero image occupies quite much space and may affect customer experience when grasping your message. I suggest you should optimize this image to a smaller size. The ideal dimensions should be 1600 x 500 pixels. Additionally, ensure clear headlines are displayed along with a prominent Call-to-Action (CTA) button to encourage users to take action.

Please refer to the example below:

MooseDesk_4-1712494757335.png

2. Enhance Trust Badge Visibility:

To increase trust and credibility for your store, it's important to make the trust badge more visible and prominent on the website. A prominently displayed trust badge can capture customer attention and encourage them to make purchases with confidence.

Kindly check this example below to observe how effectively the Trust badge is displayed:

3. Add clear heading for Product List Section:

It's important to have a clear heading for this section to draw visitor attention and make it easier for them to navigate to relevant section. Here are some recommended headings for you "Featured Products", "New Arrivals", "Best Sellers", "Discover Our Favorites"

MooseDesk_6-1712494989186.png

For example:

4. Add Images into Customer Reviews Section : I recommend you might consider including images in customer reviews section to provide visual proof that your product was purchased and used by real customers. This authenticity can enhance the credibility of the reviews and the trustworthiness for your store. For instance:

5. Support

Last but not least, customer support is crucial in ensuring a positive shopping experience.

To address this, I suggest exploring MooseDesk, a free support, FAQ, and helpdesk app. MooseDesk provides auto-reply features during non-business hours, a proactive help center, and a user-friendly widget layout, offering an effective solution to enhance customer support on your platform.

You can add a widget that contain FAQ like this with MooseDesk:

Or create a FAQ / Help Center page that contain all instant answers for your customers like this:

MooseDesk_1-1712494263599.png
