Changes from Shopify that make it by now one of the worst e-commerce platforms out there: 
- changes in data structure, not allowing you to properly run accounting reports (necessary for bigger clientes), e.g. in the sales reports transactions are markets as returns when they are still in process/ being shipped back. WHY 
- New custom report tool doesn't include any ID fields, how am I able to match any data outside of Shopify? 
- Moving Paypal transactions into shopify without proper communication and preparation.  e.g. when a payment is unsuccessful I cant see this anywhere unless I click through all my orders individually. 

 

 

Overall, Shopify got significantly worse over the last 12 months. It's now a tool that can only be used to companies or individuals who want to build their business only on Shopify and dont have any other tools.

1-Sales reports marking transactions as returns prematurely:

  • This might be due to Shopify's automated status changes. Confirm if a return process has been initiated automatically or through a third-party app that syncs return statuses. Consider using a custom report to double-check sales data manually.

2-Custom report tool missing ID fields:

  • Shopify's native reporting lacks advanced data-matching capabilities. To address this, you can use third-party reporting apps like Data Export, Report Pundit, or integrate Shopify with external tools like Google Sheets or Power BI for more detailed and customizable reporting.

3-Unsuccessful PayPal transactions visibility:

  • PayPal integration issues can occur due to communication gaps. For a clearer view of unsuccessful transactions:
    • Use Orders > Filters in Shopify to locate specific payment statuses.
    • Check directly in PayPal for transaction logs if Shopify does not display detailed status information.

4-Overall dissatisfaction with recent changes:

  • Shopify has shifted focus toward an integrated ecosystem, which can limit flexibility for businesses reliant on external tools. Feedback can be submitted via Shopify Help Center > Contact Support or public forums for prioritized improvements.

To mitigate these issues, consider supplementing Shopify's native tools with specialized apps or integrations to regain control over your data and processes.
