Exclude variant images on the media images

Hi Im using Gatsby and gatsby-source-shopify on my project and this source is relying on the storefront API has given. Is there a way that variants images will separate it from the media images? My problem is in my design I only want to display the media images in my thumbnails area but I dont want to include the variants images since my variant images is a (color image) and its not really good to display it on the thumbnail part. My goal is my variant color image is just only show in the variant part of the design.  please see screenshot and I also add a reference from the gatsby-source-shopify sumitted issue.
