Shopify Theme Setting Cookies

Hello,

I am currently working on a shopify app and has run into an issue. I want to set cookies on the client side and then access these cookies later upon reconnection of the user. Is this something that is possible to do. Alternatively is there a way in which customers can be tracked?

Any guidance would be great.
