Hello. Our company is developing a web app that will be integrated into our website built with Shopify. We are conducting tests to use some apps for managing monthly subscriptions that will grant access to the new dedicated page. We would like to know if it's possible to connect the APIs of the apps/Shopify with the backend of the web app that will be hosted on AWS. Could you provide us with more information, please? Our backend needs to know which subscription users choose, and based on that, each user will see a different version of the web app.

This is an accepted solution.

To find information about the native Shopify API and access the documentation and details you need to set it up correctly, you can refer to the Shopify API documentation. The Shopify API documentation provides comprehensive resources, guides, and reference materials to help you understand and interact with the API.

Here are the steps to access the Shopify API documentation:

  1. Visit the Shopify Developers website: Go to the Shopify Developers website by navigating to https://developers.shopify.com/.

  2. Explore the API section: On the Shopify Developers website, click on the "APIs" tab in the top navigation menu. This will take you to the section dedicated to Shopify APIs.

  3. Choose the relevant API version: Shopify provides multiple versions of its API. Choose the version that aligns with your requirements. The documentation usually provides information for the latest stable version, but you can access the documentation for older versions if needed.

  4. Access the API documentation: Within the chosen API version, you will find detailed documentation covering various aspects of the Shopify API. This includes authentication, available resources (such as products, orders, customers), endpoints, request/response formats, and best practices for making API calls.

  5. Explore guides and tutorials: In addition to the API reference documentation, the Shopify Developers website offers guides and tutorials that can help you understand how to use the API effectively. These resources cover topics such as app development, webhooks, authentication methods, and common use cases.

  6. Utilize API reference and tools: The documentation provides an API reference section where you can explore the available API endpoints, request/response examples, and supported parameters. You can also find helpful tools like the API Explorer, which allows you to interactively test API requests and view responses.

By utilizing the Shopify API documentation, you can gain a deeper understanding of how to interact with the Shopify platform programmatically and build custom integrations, apps, or functionalities for your store.

Additionally, the Shopify Developers community is a valuable resource for asking questions, getting support, and connecting with other developers who are working with the Shopify API. The community forums and developer documentation are accessible through the Shopify Developers website as well.

Remember to refer to the documentation specific to the version of the API you're working with and ensure that you're following any best practices and guidelines provided to ensure secure and efficient integration with the Shopify platform.

Hey @Andrea_Store

Yes, it is possible to connect the APIs of the subscription management apps in Shopify with the backend of your web app hosted on AWS. Here's an overview of the steps involved:

  1. API Integration: Most subscription management apps provide APIs or webhooks that allow you to retrieve subscription-related information, such as the selected subscription plan or the status of a user's subscription. You will need to review the documentation provided by the specific subscription management app you are using to understand how to integrate their API into your backend.

  2. Backend Development: On your backend hosted on AWS, you will need to develop the necessary logic to interact with the subscription management app's API. This can include making API requests to retrieve subscription data, handling authentication or authorization, and storing the relevant information in your backend's database or session management system.

  3. User-Specific App Version: Based on the subscription that each user has chosen, you will need to implement logic in your backend to determine which version of the web app to display to the user. This could involve setting up different routes or endpoints in your web app and rendering the appropriate version based on the user's subscription information retrieved from the subscription management app's API.

  4. Frontend Integration: Your web app's frontend will need to communicate with your backend to retrieve the user's subscription information and render the appropriate version of the app. This can be done through API calls from your frontend to your backend, passing any necessary user authentication or identification tokens.

  5. Testing and Debugging: Once the integration is implemented, thorough testing and debugging should be performed to ensure that the communication between the subscription management app's API, your backend, and the frontend of your web app is functioning correctly. This includes verifying that the correct subscription information is retrieved, the correct app version is displayed to the user, and any edge cases or error handling scenarios are properly handled.

It's worth noting that the specific implementation details may vary based on the subscription management app you choose and the requirements of your web app. It is recommended to consult the documentation and resources provided by the subscription management app and seek assistance from a developer experienced in integrating APIs and working with backend systems.

Additionally, Shopify provides its own API that allows you to interact with various aspects of your store, including orders, customers, and products. You may want to explore Shopify's API documentation as well to leverage its functionalities and integrate it with your web app's backend.

Remember to consider security measures, such as handling sensitive user information securely and implementing appropriate authentication and authorization mechanisms to protect user data.

Hi Moed, thank you for your response. In your experience, is it preferable to leverage Shopify flows to add specific tags to users? This way, instead of using app APIs, we would be using Shopify APIs, correct?

Yes, leveraging Shopify Flows can be a viable solution for adding specific tags to users based on their actions or selections. Shopify Flows is a built-in automation tool that allows you to create workflows using triggers and actions within your Shopify store. By using Shopify Flows, you can automate processes and perform actions without the need for third-party app APIs.

In your case, you can create a flow that triggers when a customer adds specific products to their cart or completes certain actions. The flow can then apply relevant tags to the customer's profile or order using the "Add a tag" action provided by Shopify Flows.

By utilizing Shopify Flows, you can take advantage of the Shopify platform's native capabilities and avoid relying on external app APIs. This can simplify your setup and reduce dependencies on third-party apps, making your store more efficient and easier to maintain.

Here's a high-level overview of the steps to set up a flow using Shopify Flows:

  1. Access Shopify Flows: From your Shopify admin dashboard, navigate to "Settings" and select "Automation" or "Flows" to access the Shopify Flows interface.

  2. Create a Flow: Click on "Create flow" to start creating your custom flow.

  3. Define Triggers: Select the appropriate triggers for your flow. For example, you can choose to trigger the flow when a specific product is added to the cart or when an order is placed.

  4. Set Conditions: Specify any conditions that need to be met for the flow to execute. This could include checking if certain products are in the cart or if a specific action has been completed.

  5. Add Actions: Configure the "Add a tag" action within the flow to assign relevant tags to the customer or order. You can define custom tags that are meaningful to your business.

  6. Save and Enable: Once you have set up the flow, save it and enable it to make it active.

Shopify Flows provides a user-friendly interface to create and manage these workflows without the need for coding or external app integrations. It leverages the native Shopify APIs to perform the necessary actions within your store.

Keep in mind that Shopify Flows has its limitations, and more complex workflows may still require the use of external APIs or custom development. However, for adding specific tags to users based on certain conditions, Shopify Flows can be a practical solution.

Always test your flows thoroughly to ensure they function as expected and accurately apply tags to users based on your defined triggers and conditions.
