For discussing the development and integration of subscription-enabled shops using Shopify's Subscription APIs.
We just experienced something unexpected with PayPal Express. A merchant has a subscription product, and only wants the product to be purchased as a subscription. They have checked the product option "Only allow purchase of this product as a subscription".
Their theme was updated, and our widget no longer appeared on their storefront. Typically, the product would not be allowed to be added to the cart because it doesn't contain a valid selling plan.
When customers try to purchase this product via the featured product section with dynamic payment buttons available, they are able to purchase the product without a selling plan. It goes through the PayPal flow, then loads the checkout with the selected product, but no selling plan.
Can somebody please advise why this is possible? Can anything be added before the PayPal popup appears to validate that the product contains a selling plan if required? Alternatively, could the checkout page do a secondary check to ensure that products that require a selling plan have one?
Thanks in advance
Chris

Hi @simplee_chris
Looking at the board, it appears that a fix for this was pushed live on January 5th and should no longer occur.

Hi Chris_mctavish
Thanks for letting us know about this. I've put it on the team's board and they'll look at it after the holiday break.

Hi @MeganMcVey - do you know when the team might have time to look into this one?

That's amazing, thanks!
Just checking, is this a public board, or is this something internal to Shopify?
Merchants, experts, and partners can login to the Shopify Community.
That is, essentially public-facing and visible globally.

Thanks Megan. I didn't ask my question properly. I was meaning the board you were referring to when checking if this work was completed. Is that an internal Jira board, or are these kinds of releases published somewhere for the public to see?
Oh... haha
Yeah, that was just in our internal issue tracking system.
