Adding CSS to a section

I am trying to add CSS to a section in the 'Customize' area of my website (as per attached). I am not why this does not work. Can anyone advice how CSS works on a section?

You need to provide the available selector inside the said section. You can read more about selector here

How would I know what type of selector to apply? I am familiar with CSS but I cannot see what CSS surrounds the existing code. Can you provide an example of how to turn the text red for the section shown in the attachment?

Use the inspect tool, and select the selector inside the section

To use Customize section you need to choose the correct tag eg h1,h2 and div etc.

Thanks Richard, I tried those tags but it did not seem to work. Perhaps I've done it incorrectly. Can you provide the entire code to make this text red as per my attachment? This will help illustrate how it works.
