automatic variant picking based on input field (slider) - DAWN THEME

Hi,

I am using the DAWN theme and I am trying to have a variant "picker" that takes a slider input to pick the variant. Thus, I want variant "M" to be selected automatically if the slider value is < 600, and I want variant "L" to be selected if the slider value is dragged to >600. This needs to be reflected both in the frontend (e.g. displayed price change) as well as in the backend (right variant selected when adding it to the cart).

I have tried many ways, and successfully changed the URL based on the slider input, however, I cannot manage to actually "select" the variant only based on the slider input.

Is there a way to achieve that?
