Can customers continue to buy product when inventory tracking is disabled and product is sold out?

If I don't track my inventory on Shopify can customers still buy product even if it is sold out? I own an antique shop so I only have one of everything. Should I toggle on track inventory on Shopify so an item isn't sold twice?

Yes, you will want to turn on inventory tracking. Otherwise, it is assumed there is no limit on the available quantity for customers to purchase.

Have you tried using Pre-order app for it? It will be more convenient to track all the orders made after Stock reached 0 and less. I would like to recommend you KAD Pre-order app.

It is easy to use and set up. You can customize the button text and it does not have to be "Pre-order" only. App will collect all the pre-orders on the Dashboard and will track inventory.
