On check out am I able to require phone number AND email?
I have to choose Email so we can send them more information when they purchase... but I'd like both.

This is a great question. You can require your customers to provide their email and phone number within the checkout by navigating to Settings > Checkout and Accounts. Once you are there, you should see the options to require the customers email or phone number. You can choose the Email option and require the customer's shipping address phone number.
I took a screenshot from my test store to show you the sections I am referring to:
You can mix these two sections to your liking to make both email and phone numbers required.

While this works in checkout, the customer phone number is never included in the PaymentSession request data Shopify sends to Payment App Extensions. Why is this so?

This doesn't work for people who pick up at our shop. I need to be able to make them give us a phone number and email address so we can contact them immediately, and so far it looks like either or, which makes no sense to me. It's like the designers of Shopify didn't think that we would need both, but I do. I get folks who only give me emails, and I need to reach them by phone more quickly when we are fulfilling an order. Very frustrating.

In this case, I would suggest reaching out to our live support to have a further look into your online store set up. With that being said, you can get in touch with our live support by logging into your online store using the Contact Us page. This will allow us to securely verify you as the store owner.

@Ollie I've read all your responses and it seems like you're not clear on customer user experience when checking out and choosing a "Local Pickup" option. When this is done the section you referenced with the "Shipping Address Phone Number Required" field is no longer relevant b/c the "shipping" section disappears... which makes sense b/c the person is planning to pick up the order. When the customer gets to the billing section, the Phone Number field is there... but it's OPTIONAL and the whole point of this thread is very very simple... to require that a customer enter their phone number AND email at checkout. I'm so surprised what simple thing this is... but Shopify has this convoluted checkout logic where you can't simply have a phone and email field and toggle it to be required or not. 😒
This isn't working in my store. Customers are still able to checkout without a phone number...What could be the issue?

Just to gather some additional context, did you happen to navigate to Settings > Checkout to see the Customer Information section to ensure that it is required to have a Shipping address phone number?

Hello, In our case we have options to send products as gifts, we want to require both email and mobile for the customer (buyer) then under the shipping details mobile for the receiver of the products is it possible to ask for both email and number under customer contact

Appreciate the prompt response. I may have been a bit unclear so let me start over.
We are a flower shop selling online and like any other business, some customers send gifts to other people.
Currently in the checkout page we can only first, ask for the buyer's Email/Mobile.
Second is a shipping mobile number intended for the receiver.
in the FIRST part we want to require both the buyer's email and mobile since we send out updates or contact them if flower availability/season is an issue.
We have all our stocks on-hand and we deliver it ourselves.
I hope I have been able to make our concern clearer.

It is possible to require an email address and phone number by navigating to Settings > Checkout and changing the Customer contact method to require email only. After that is done, you can change the required customer information to include a shipping address phone number.
This will allow you to update the buyer in this scenario over email and provide shipping updates to the receiver.
With that being said, I can certainly see the benefit of customizing the checkout to include another customer contact phone number and email. I am going to provide this thread to the developers as a suggestion to include. We appreciate you reaching out and sharing this feedback with us.

I need the customers phone number and Email on a digital product at checkout.
Your backend only offers email OR phone, however, we require email AND phone when getting a digital product.
How can we acheive this?
This seems like a good use case for a cart note. You can customize the cart note prompt, for example "Please provide contact information for the recipient here".
Hi @Ollie . Would you know why it does not show the customer phone number when they use Apple Pay? When they choose that payment method for some reason the data comes without a phone number. Even though I have email and phone number as "required".

Apple Pay doesn't 'expose' a phone number in relation to a customer's order, so even if you have a phone number set as 'required', you won't have that information provided via Apple Pay. Additionally, customers using Apple Pay may run into issues when checking out when using Apple Pay on stores that have a phone number listed as optional. If you haven't experienced any customer complaints about this topic, then there's nothing for you to action. However if you do receive complaints about this in the future, setting a phone number to 'optional' should resolve any issues for these Apple Pay users experiencing checkout issues.

Not having any issues with Apple Pay so far... but thanks for the heads up. I just wanted to see if there was a way I could retrieve the customers phone number when they used Apple Pay as a payment method.
