Cant setup digital download variant in a Printify product on Shopify

Hi,

I'm using Printify in Shopify and I want to add a Digital Download variant. I understand that I can use an app for the actual digital download part but...

Im trying to figure out how to set up a digital download variant in a Printify product on Shopify. In Printify's variants they of course have sizes, colours etc. When I try to add a new Variant for Digital Download, it shows up as a variant at checkout but when I click on it, it wont allow me to switch to it as a separate "product" from the physical printify product sizes, colours etc. 

If I try to add a new + Variant and enter in the price, not physical etc and save, i get the error "There is 1 error with this variant: You need to add option values for Size" But I dont want to add an option for size, just for Digital Download. 

After doing all this, the Add to Cart button says Unavailable....

Do I need to create a whole new product in Shopify for the same physical product in Printify, or is there a way of "separating" the two so that they can checkout?
