Hi,
I run a vintage website, so I have over 600 unique products listed. I have updated my theme (to Craft) & am working on the product titles & meta info to help with SEO ranking etc. I am shortening the product names to include more keywords & taking out sizing which seemed to affect their reach.
What I am struggling to find information on is the best way to do this to not affect my website - I understand that to have redirect URL is best practice however my concern is will having so many of them cause serious issues with my ranking/reach etc. Is there a more suitable way of doing so without having to upload all of my items again?
Thank you for your help!
Hi @VintageKT ,
When updating product titles and URL handles for SEO, it's essential to use redirects wisely to avoid losing page authority. Shopify automatically creates redirects for changed URLs, which helps maintain SEO value. However, excessive redirects can slow down your site, so it's crucial to manage them efficiently. Keep your URLs concise, keyword-rich, and relevant to the product.
In this context, SEOPro can significantly ease the process. SEOPro provides tools to audit your Shopify store, identify SEO issues, and offer recommendations for optimization, including best practices for titles and URLs. It also features bulk optimization tools, allowing you to update meta titles, descriptions, and even handle redirects more efficiently without re-uploading products.

Hi @VintageKT ,
Updating product titles and URL handles for better SEO is a great strategy, especially for a vintage website like yours. It's essential to keep the URL redirects to a minimum to avoid potential site speed issues, as Shopify automatically creates redirects when URLs are changed. Having a manageable number of redirects shouldn't significantly affect your site's SEO if done correctly.
SEOPro can be particularly helpful in this scenario. It enables you to conduct a comprehensive SEO audit, identifying and prioritizing fixes for SEO issues such as titles and meta information. Plus, SEOPro simplifies the process of updating product titles, meta titles, descriptions, and URL handles in bulk, ensuring your website remains SEO-friendly without the need for re-uploading items. This can significantly streamline the optimization process while maintaining or even improving your site's SEO performance.
