Check if customer recieved email within last 24 hours

I was hoping someone could guide me in to how to implement a logic in the shopify email automations to check :

If the customer has recieved an email within the last 24 hours, delay the next email in automation until the customer has not recieved any emails within the last 24 hours. I want this to act as a spam check ish for when I manually create and send out campaigns and that they dont overlap with the email automations.
