Choose Featured Image - Not First Image in Product

Hello, I am using the Dawn theme. On homepage, under Featured Products, the first image is shown, but I do not want to use the first image that is on the single product page. How can I tell the theme what image I want to use as the featured image?

Hi Entrepnewer,

Shopify automatically takes the first image as a featured one. If you like, you can use a bit of coding and ask Shopify to use 2nd or 3rd image on a preview within a particular section.

Ah, okay, that's what I was thinking. Ideally, I would like to have a featured image that I specify that doesn't even show up on the product page. I'm guessing this isn't possible unless you know how to code?? 😞

In theory, I think you could do that if you don`t have many products on your shop.

Not sure about all the nuances, but I reckon you could assign each product (by calling product handle) the image, that would show only when product-item-grid is in use, which is exactly Featured Products and Home page and everything else where it is not a Single Product.

However I am quite sceptic about this solution, as I am not sure if Shopify is meant to allow this.

I would suggest trying to find an app that might do this.

By using custom code it's possible if you know coding.

Create custom metafield for product and assign image url into it.

Edit the code of featured section to pick metafield value as image.
