Our customers are getting this message when trying to use the discount code at checkout: "CODE couldn't be used with your existing discounts. You already have a better combination."

We do not have any existing discounts.

I was having the same issue and I think in my case it has to do with the discount amount being $0.00 or 0% off. I've used this $0.00/0% discount before without issue but am now getting this same error message. I'm using this discount as a promo to receive a free gift with purchase which is why the amount is $0.00 or 0% and the buy X get Y requires the customer to add the free item into their cart which doesn't make sense for this particular promotion I'm running.

 

I found a workaround that's not ideal, but applying a $0.01 fixed amount discount applying it once to the order gets around fixing the error.

If you are getting the error that their coupon can't be combined, there is either an issue with your coupon code, or you have an Automatic Discount running that applies to the same products. 

 

Automatic Discounts and Discount Codes can't be ran at the same time currently. Thus, it's possible you missed an active Automatic Discount. To confirm, head to your Shopify Admin and select Discounts > Active. If there are no discounts listed there, head back to Discounts > Discount Codes and check that your current discount code has selected that it can be combined with other discounts. If this isn't selected then it could be your sale products are in the customers cart preventing the use of the coupon.

Lastly, is it possible you're using a discount generating app? If so, that could be the issue. In this case you would need to open the app and check for any potential discounts. 

 

In the meantime, if you need some inspiration for future discounts, we have a great blog post on how to create powerful promotions by combining multiple discounts. You could even offer this as an email subscriber only feature to help you collect those customers for email marketing!

Hello Skye - I am suddenly getting this message as well - it seems to be on the CODES that we have set up with a 0% Discount (we use these to track our fundraisers).  When I changed the % to 1 - the code working again.  We have run these 0 codes for many years - has there been an update that might have affected this ?? Please help. Many thanks

The issue you are experiencing is due to the new Discount Stacking option that was introduced this summer. Our developers are working on a solution. However, for the time being, one of our live advisors can disable the discount combination options for your account, which will enable the ability to use 0%/$0 discounts again. 

 

If you'd like to move forward with this option please reach out to our live advisors who can assist with the request. Please visit our Help Center and log in to your account to create a support request through live chat, email, or callback. Once you have logged in to your account, type your request in 'Ask about a topic', scroll down to 'Get Support', and then click 'Continue.'

Hello @Skye - we are also facing this same issue. However, our support rep seems to be unable to resolve this. Are there more detailed steps or instructions you have that we could provide to our support rep? You make it sound quite straightforward and we have now been trying to get this resolved for several days to no avail.

Unfortunately, in order for your previous discount settings to work as intended, our team needs to apply internal settings to the backend of your account.  While I would love to be able to do this for you, only our live advisors have access to specific accounts. I apologize that the previous advisor wasn't able to do this for you!

 

Please try to reach out to our support team again, and tell them specifically you are "Unable to apply a 0%/$0 discount." With this specific information, they should be able to help you. If not, please provide them a link to this forum post as confirmation.

Yes! Same thing here... I don't know what changed. This coupon for us use to work fine.
