Collections Sorts. Why is shopify obsessed with "Best Selling" ?

Shopify forces you to default to best selling when best selling seems to be the least likely used in stores.

Most people will select "Newest" or AZ.   Nobody selects oldest.

Why can't I set my store to default to the selection I want to use.  Yes I know I can manually change each collection.

I tried to use flow to change the store when a new collection is created, but I see no option for that.

When you create a new collection and the items are new, with the sort set to "Best Selling."

You just told your customers "I"m a liar."    You just said to your customers here is a list of items that I have never sold before, but here is a ranking of items based on those that have sold the most, that you are supposed to trust.

There will be some of you that are tempted to say you can remove "best selling" with code.  Please resist this temptation, because it only removes it from the list and makes it invisible.  It will still sort your list by best selling.

Hello,

defaults collections to "Best Selling" and doesn't let you set a global default. You can't change it with Flow, but you can use the Admin API to auto-set new collections to "Newest" or "A-Z" via a script or webhook.

Best Regard,

angela

Because it scales, there's a million stores and shopify's revenue is tied to store sales through gateway fees etc.

Because it forces customer to interaction with sites, engagement, overcoming initial objections etc.

Etc and other choices that are really just dark patterns even if that wasn't the intent.

To have flow do this you'd need to use the admin-api and code the automation.

Or use another tool like the mechanic app but would have to be custom made as nothing for that specific case in the task library
