Connecting my domain with (AWS) Amazon's Route 53 Domain Service to my Shopify

Hi, I am trying to connect my domain to my Shopify store through Amazon's Route 53 Domain Service. Pointing the A record to Shopify's IP address 23.227.38.32 is not an issue. When I try to add the CNAME record and point it to shops.myshopify.com I get the following error message. 

[RRSet of type CNAME with DNS name www.mydomain.com. is not permitted at apex in zone www.mydomain.com]

I have Googled and see where other people have encountered this error message, but have not located a solution that will resolve it. Any ideas? I would prefer to use my AWS account to handle DNS.

Hi, I figured out what the problem was. When I removed the 'www' from the A record and put in the CNAME record pointing to 'shops.myshopify.com' that worked.
