Re: Consolidating orders from post-purchase upsells

Consolidating orders from post-purchase upsells

Hi everyone,

i've seen that there are a few apps that offer the opportunity to show a custom Thank you page with upsells after an order has been completed.

I don't want to create two different orders, though: i'd like to add the items directly to the previous order, if the upsell is completed within a certain timeframe.

Is there a way to consolidate orders like this?

Also, do these apps interfere with post-purchase notifications?

Thank you!

Hey there, any reason why you wouldn't show upsells during the initial checkout process? If you do it all in one order, it would be much simpler & cleaner (for UX & CRO reference, this is also how Amazon does it)

You can use Crossing Minds to drag-and-drop a carousel with customized upsell recommendations in the cart page, or the product page. The nice thing is that's already configured to show the items each customer is most likely to click on / buy, so they're more likely to buy more during the checkout process.

To add to an existing order, you may have to resort to a hacked-together way of combining two orders, which isn't ideal. However if you decide to go this route, keep me posted!

Hi @isaacfast, thank you for your reply!

We are already offering upsells during the purchase process, but we'd like to add special offers in the post-purchase thank you page as well.

Even if there isn't an "optimized" way to do that, are there at least some apps that could prove useful?

Ideally, i'd like to add the items from the second order into the first one, but it's fine as long as there's a way to see who has purchased both times and to adjust the shipping rate.

Do you know some useful apps? Even if it's not perfect, maybe we can find a solution that works for us.

Hey @Shiroyasha ! I don't know of any apps that would have all of this functionality. For the recommendation/upsell functionality, Crossing Minds would probably be your best bet. Then for the post-checkout order editing functionality, not sure what to recommend here. I know there's also a Shopify Devs discord server, you might have some luck posing the question there! 🙂

Hey Anne! You can edit existing orders, so long as they are eligible. So you can add your upsell items to the order to keep it all tracked properly. You can learn more about editing orders in our Help Center here: Editing Orders. Let me know if this solves this for you.

Thanks for the solution which I think is manual. I was ideally looking for
something automated to deal with volume .

Hi, @Anne_Sinclair!

To automate the process of upselling after an order has been placed and consolidating orders for shipping on Shopify, you can utilize an Order Merger app. These apps allow you to automate the consolidation of multiple orders into a single shipment, making your fulfillment process more efficient.
