Dawn Clickable Slideshow and Drop Down Menu

So I've been playing around with the code on a the Dawn theme that we are trying to switch over to. Because of the regimented locations of the buttons in this theme, I changed the code to make the entire slideshow images clickable and just graphically designed buttons over it. HOWEVER, now I can not get the main menu in the header to be forward/ the priority, so when you attempt to select something on the menu that overlaps the slideshow image, it only responds to the clickable slideshow image. Can anyone help with "prioritizing" the drop down menu over the clickable image in code?? Thank you!
