Dawn Theme - Have collections display side by side instead of on top of each other

Hello,

I have some collections which only have 2 items int hem and when I display them they are shown to be on top of each other whilst other collections can show 4 items horizontally. Is there a way to show these two collections side to side of each other to fill in all 4 of the item slots?
