How do I sort "Out of Stock" products to the end of a collection?

Really good question! There are a couple of potential ways to go about this, let's take a look at them: 

• Pricing - On each collection page in administration, there is a way to sort the products in that collection. If you choose "price high to low" there, that is how it will show when someone is on your website, and it will automatically put the sold out items at the end of the collection.
• Apps - The other way to go about this would be via an app from the Shopify App store. There are several apps for this, but the one l like the most is Nada. You can see the full list of out of stock style apps here. 

You could also hide the out of stock products if you wanted to go that route also. You still might want to keep them visible and not remove them, but I wanted to share this with you, just in case. Shopify has a helpful guide for this here.

Am I the only find who find it surprising that you need to pay for an app in order to push down or hide "out of stock" products?  Shouldn't this be on the list of obvious 'must have' functionality in any web store?  Who wants customers to click on a collection, just to find tons of OOS products.   The 'hacky' workarounds suggested officially by Shopify is not an option when running a serious webstore with thousands of products. 

I would highly suggest this is implemented in the core functionality.

Exactly. Been asking for this for YEARS and am annoyed they didn't include it with 2.0 themes.
