Heya,
We recently rebranded. We updated our favicon and title in shopify preferences about a week ago, and they still haven't updated in social sharing. So, when a user shares a link to our page, our old brand name and old logo show in the link. I need to fix this literally as soon as possible. Reached out to Shopify support, and this is their response:
Hey Amanda,
Lisa here with the Shopify Support Advisor team! Thanks for reaching out earlier, it was a pleasure chatting with you.
I just wanted to follow up from our chat to let you know I've been in touch with our support team regarding your new social sharing image; They confirmed that the image you set as the Social sharing image under Online store > Preferences will be used only if another relevant image can’t be found within the theme or when a featured image for the page can't be found.
We can see you're using the Boundless theme, and after digging into the theme editor, are not showing any social share images set directly there. However, we are showing the theme has been customized through coding as well. In this case, it looks like there may be a social sharing image set somewhere within the theme coding files directly and it is pulling the social sharing image from there. If you have a web developer that works on the store directly through the theme code files, they should be able to locate this image and update it for you in the coding files to the new image.

I searched all of the code in edit code and I don't see any reference to a file for our favicon other than in the theme.liquid file, which appears to be pointing to the correct location. I tested this by replacing the link ref value to something else, then reverting it back to the original value which does point to the correct logo. I also changed our brand name in the theme.liquid file, but it's still showing as the old brand name whenever our URL is pasted and shared on the Internet. I really need this fixed as soon as possible. Any pointers would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks!
Please share your store URL.
The social sharing part is handled by the social meta tags. You can try to use Facebook debugger to "scrape" the page. Sometimes, the social share image is not updated because Facebook is loading the cache.
