Does a slow speed score impact checkout transition?

my speed score is 22. I'm wondering if ppl dropps of because the loading to checkout is slow

I thinking of hire a feverr agent to fix my speedscore. 

is it worth it?

If by "transition" you mean when a customer goes from a product or the cart to shopifys checkout:

Your general speedscore should not affect that as because the page is generally already loaded when a customer clicks checkout.

What can make the "transition" seem slow is if you have apps that generate products, or validate the cart, try to apply discounts or other things that modify the cart on your behalf before sending a customer checkout.

If there are errors or poorly made javascript that can make a webpage seem sluggish which is generally an issue AFTER a page loads and thus not always directly a speedscore issue.
