Domain transferred to Shopify still showing up as old Wordpress site

I just transferred my domain from my Wordpress website to my new Shopify website. I have talked with live chat support to go through the process as the host is GoDaddy. It went great.

Everything is good, but when i go onto to my website, it still shows as the WordPress website. But for everyone else (i had friends test the link) it shows up as the new shopify website.

I have cleared my cache and deleted all bookmark links to my website, but it STILL goes to the worpdress site. Even when i review the website in my theme editor, it shows the wordpress one.

Shopify can not help any further as they are stumped.

Hey @mleest,

Welcome to the Shopify Community!

It sounds like the issue might be related to your browser cache. Even though you said you cleared your cache, it's possible that there are still some lingering files that are causing the issue. Here are a few things you can try to fix the problem:

  • Try using a different browser: If you have another browser installed on your computer, try accessing your website using that browser. If the website looks correct, then it is definitely a cache issue.
  • Clear your browser cache again: Make sure that you're clearing your browser cache completely, including cookies and browsing history.
  • Use a private browsing window: Most browsers have a private browsing mode that doesn't store cache or cookies. Try accessing your website in a private browsing window and see if it displays correctly.
  • Disable caching plugins: If you have any caching plugins installed on your WordPress site, try disabling them temporarily to see if that resolves the issue.

If none of these steps work, then it's possible that the issue is related to your computer's network settings or DNS cache. Performing a DNS flush can help to clear any cached DNS records on your computer and potentially resolve the issue. Here's how to do it:

  • On a Windows computer, press the Windows key + R, type cmd, and press Enter. On a Mac, open Spotlight and type "terminal" to open the terminal window.
  • In the terminal window, type ipconfig /flushdns on Windows or sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder on a Mac and press Enter.
  • You should see a message indicating that the DNS cache has been flushed.
  • Close the terminal window and try accessing your website again.

Note that it may take some time for your computer to update its DNS records, so it's possible that you may need to wait a few hours before the changes take effect.

Let me know how you get on!

Hi Moira. Thank you for your help. It is still showing the old wordpress site.

I did try everything you mentioned above. What's odd, is even on my phone it shows the old one. But for some family and friends it shows as the new one and for some it shows the old one!

Ive also been trying to find how to delete my Wordpress site all together. I cant find much on that.

@mleest,

If performing a DNS flush did not work, it's possible that the DNS records on your domain registrar's end have not been fully updated yet. Domains typically take up to 48 hours to fully propagate across the internet, which means that some users may still see the old WordPress site while others might see the new Shopify site. In this case, you may need to wait a bit longer for the DNS records to fully propagate.

Regarding deleting your WordPress site, you can typically do this by logging in to your WordPress dashboard and navigating to Settings > General. Under "Site Address (URL)" and "WordPress Address (URL)", change the URLs to something else (e.g. add "old" to the end of the URL) and save the changes. This will make your site inaccessible and effectively delete it. However, before you do this, make sure to download any important files or data you might need from the WordPress site.

Hope this helps!

Hey @KelsonK,

Would you mind sharing your website URL so I can take a closer look at the DNS records?

Hello @Moira ,

thank you for the reply. My IT guy managed to fix it by updating the IP address on my company's DNS manager as well as clearing the old cache.
