Anyone using a formula-based pricing calculator on product pages? Does it slow your site down? Share your insights

Using a formula-based pricing calculator on product pages may have an impact on site speed, depending on how it is implemented. Well-optimized calculators, such as those found in apps like " Price calculator by formula" by Addify" usually have little impact on performance. However, complex or poorly coded calculators may slow down your website, affecting user experience and conversion rates.

To avoid potential slowdowns, make sure that any calculator you use is optimized and compatible with your website's theme. Regular performance testing can also help identify and resolve any problems.

Hey @jenn-hill
It depends if you're using an app for that or manually custom coded. If you're using an app then there will be slightly speed changes in your website and if you have it manually custom coded then no it won't affect your website speed at all.

I’m currently exploring both options—app-based and custom coding—so your input really helps. If I decide to go the custom route, are there any best practices or tips to ensure it integrates smoothly with Shopify's theme without causing issues?

Hi @jenn-hill
In my experience, as long as the calculator is built efficiently (e.g., JavaScript running client-side with minimal DOM manipulation), it doesn’t noticeably slow down the site. However, if it's pulling data from external sources or using too many re-renders, it can affect performance. Tip: use lazy loading or debounce inputs to optimize UX. Also, test on mobile to catch lag that might not show on desktop.
