Existing Shopify store development: best practices

Hi guys,

Not sure if I got the right board, could not find a "general development" questions.

As I am new to Shopify development, I am looking to learn some of best/recommended practices for existing website/store development. In more detail, being a developer, I am used to doing my development in a separate environment (dev/staging), and once all is ready, pushing it to the live website.

With Shopify, I found I could only connect the online theme to GitHub (or do manual backup copies to revert later), and while that works well for theme changes, I am still cautious about adding new apps that require some setup to get it running, for example, DPD app for shipment price calculations and management.

I am cautious because it would edit the purchase flow, and the only way I know to integrate it is simply adding the app to the live store and configuring it there. This is a potential problem because until I get the configurations right, customers might get some errors trying to purchase, therefore broken experience for our customers.

How do you manage that, and how do you develop the store safely while keeping it available for your customers without breaking any functionality?

Thanks,

Justinas

Hello there asjustis I actually went through the same issues like that it's like seeing the same issue I posted cause  I am still cautious about adding new apps that require some setup to get it running but I had help cause my cousin refered me to Douglas who helped me with all my Shopify issues and solved them all and now I am earning 7k monthly cause of his help and I don't have to watch over it all the time Douglas got me covered

I'm having the exact same questions. I'm trying to understand the concept of shopify, but many things don't make sense to me at this point.

Any experienced developers out there willing to share their setups?
