Gifting subscriptions. A rock and a hardplace

I have tried a few subscription apps and none of them allow me to gift a subscription without just buying a prepaid subscription (e.g. pre pay 3 months, get 3 monthly deliveries) with the only difference being entering the gift recipients address as the shipping address which means you dont have any of their other details (e.g. email).

Another solution we tried is purchasing the prepaid plan with a gift card which seems fine until they reach the checkout where they get asked for their payment details even though they aren't paying anything.

So I was wondering if there is a way to schedule x amount of orders via code once a purchase using a gift card has been made i.e. via order api or subscription api?

I would also really like a solution to this. I can't find a way with any apps for my customers to redeem a gift card (or 100% discount code) against a subscription (even a pre-paid one limited to a single payment) without being asked to enter payment details at checkout.

I know we can have a customer buy a subscription and enter the shipping address of another person. That's not what I'm looking for. I'd like to be able to allow gift card recipients to redeem their card without being asked for payment details.

I also haven't found a way to manually set up a free subscription in admin without having to enter payment details.

One article I read suggested I use my own payment details. I haven't tested this out yet so perhaps it'll be OK but my concern is whether my customers would then be able to make subscription upgrades / renewals / other purchases with my payment card.

I'm assuming it's built-in Shopify functionality that requires payment details for all subscriptions?

Has anyone found a way around this subscription gift redemption issue?
