Does Google Channel automatically install the global site tag as well as event snippets mentioned here? https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/promoting-marketing/analyze-marketing/tracking-adwords-conversion...
I have set up Google Channel in Shopify and linked my Adwords account. It appears that Google Channel added the following conversion actions to my Google Ads account:
Google Shopping App Purchase
Google Shopping App Page View
Google Shopping App View Item
Google Shopping App Add To Cart
Google Shopping App Begin Checkout
For reference, I have not manually installed the Global site tag on my theme.liquid, but when I use Google Tag Assistant, I can see the Tag ID for my AdWords account showing up on my site. When I browse a product page, I can also see the view_item event showing up in Google Tag Assistant.
Shopify Support has told me that I need to add the event snippets myself. But according to Google Tag Assistant, it looks like some events at least have already been set up automatically.
Do I need to be manually adding the Global site tags and event snippets for the above events? Or are the global site tags and event snippets already configured automatically by Google Channel? I just need to confirm this. Thank you.
Please remember that the global site tag is used by more than 1 platform, these are Google Ads, Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, so as your question is referencing Google Ads Conversion tracking, from this perspective, yes everything is installed automatically.
However, not for Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager, these you still need to do if you want to track data.
For Google Analytics go to Online store > Preferences > add your UA-code from Analytics.
Thank you @EmmanuelFlossie .
So to confirm, for Google Ads, I do not need to follow Step 3: Install the event snippet to my checkout page? This event snippet is automatically added to the checkout page by the Shopify Google channel app?
If you are using the free Shopify Google Shopping app, then conversion tracking is already installed. You can double check by going to Google Ads > tools and settings > conversions
Thank you Emmanuel.
I can see that in Google Ads > Tools and Settings > Measurement > Conversions, there are values for Google Shopping App Page View, Google Shopping App View Item. Google Shopping App Add To Cart, etc.
However, when I went to setup custom columns to show Add to Cart, etc as shown in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gq1HcyKsQOw my campaign is showing 0's for every conversion including Page View, View Item. Add To Cart, etc. I have 200 clicks to my website on this campaign, so it shouldn't be showing 0's.
Do you know what's wrong?
In Google Ads, go to all campaigns, then click on the icon segments. Then segment by conversion > conversion action. Now you can see all the conversions.
For custom columns, you need to make sure you select the conversion action.
Hi Emmanuel,
For the custom column, I have selection the Conversion action called "Google Shopping Add View Item". I have attached a screenshot. Have I done this correctly?
In the campaign, as you can see, I'm getting clicks so the View Item column should not be 0.
I can't see any reason why it should not work. I recommend getting in touch with Google Ads support so they can look into it for you.
Hello,
I has some issues with Google Ads Remarketing tags when I contacted shopify support they recommended me to delete the google sales channel & install it again after 60 minutes.
Now my conversion tracking is not working.
The suggestion you received is not a great one.
If the tags are no longer working, I recommend you install them manually. Or wait a day or two to see if they become active again.
If you like to install the tags I have some guides for you:
https://feedarmy.com/kb/adding-adwords-conversion-tracking-to-shopify/
https://feedarmy.com/kb/adding-google-adwords-remarketing-tag-to-shopify/
Now I have deleted the sales channel again & will install it again after 2 days to see it places the Google Ads Conversion Tracking Tag again.
I have a concern where does the Google sales channel places this tags?
I have attached a screenshot for your reference.
Thank you for taking time to reply, I really appreciate your work. 🙂 You guides had helped me numerous times.
