Has anyone tried to use the new way of using GTM within Shopify? They have removed the checkout.liquid file as well as the checkout scripts area... according to the documentation want you to install GTM as a "custom pixel". And then you set functions to fire datalayer events on standard shopify ecommerce events. This seems all fine and good, but then when I open things up in the GTM debugger, I find that I can't use the debugger at all even though it is on the checkout. They have put all "custom pixels" inside of an iframe sandbox? I can't tell if GTM is even functioning and I can't go to the iframe URL directly. It just shows as a blank page.Has anyone successfully navigated setting up GTM in this new feature?

At the end of the day, all I want to do is setup a google ads purchase conversion. Is there another workaround for doing that? (we already tried the google ads shopify integration but it did not allow us to I could do it via the new custom pixel feature but it's not clear to me it would work in an iframe either?
Heyy there! I have been having the same issue with custom pixels. GTM debugger does not even recognise that the GTM tag is there although if I look at the Google Tag assistant I can see both the tag and the data layer. I am hesitant to use this since my tags do not fire on google tag manager while I am using the debugger
Im also having the same issue and still haven't been able to find a solve 😤
The help articles say to use the legacy Google Tag Assistant chrome extension, but it has been no help whatsoever. I am not able to verify that the data we want pushed to the datalayer is being set, and Shopify's Front end Development team said "they are also very limited on what they are able to troubleshoot with custom pixels and advised that due to the complexity, it’s beyond what they can support" 😒
Would be great if someone found a solution or workaround for this! 🙏🏼
We have been having the same problems and here is a workaround I was able to find -https://slideruleanalytics.com/blog/integrating-and-debugging-google-tag-manager-with-shopifys-custo... . Apart from this the only other way we could use a tagassistant is to use the deprecated tagassistant legacy extension published by google - https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/deprecated-tag-assistant/kejbdjndbnbjgmefkgdddjlbokphdefk
Glad I am not the only one, the problem is there is a tutorial for integration from shopify of GTM and this is not mentioned at all. Thanks @raghavam for your link I am going to explore this. Hopefully Shopify can update their tutorial!
Same problem, and what irritates the most is that the old way of integration will be taken down by shopify by the end of 2024, they need to fix this or push the deadline until they fixed it.
Or else this will cause huge problems to our accounts
If this is still an issue, You can use DataLayer Checker Plus Chrome extension to see your Shopify pixel data layer live.
Hope this helps
