HELP Needed with connecting my Shopify store to my GoDaddy domain

I have already connected my shopify store to my domain and I believed that everything was fine until I check today, and there seems to be an issue.

In my settings, within the domains tab there shows three sections underneath "domain"

mybrand.co = primary for online store (no issues)
my-brand.myshopify.com = redirects to mybrand.co (no issues)
www. mybrand .co  = redirects to mybrand.co (Needs attention)

Now, when I click on the needs attention section the following is shown:
"Your domain's CNAME record doesn't point to Shopify
Open your domain provider's DNS settings for www. mybrand .co  and set its CNAME record to shops.myshopify.com."

But when I go to my GoDaddy account and check my DNS records (which haven't been touched in about 2 weeks)
the following shows:

23.227.38.32 (I am unable to edit this)

NS ns23.domaincontrol.com. (I am unable to edit this)

NS ns24.domaincontrol.com. (I am unable to edit this)

CNAME www mybrand.co. (I am unable to edit this)

CNAME _domainconnect _domainconnect.gd.domaincontrol.com.

SOA Primary nameserver: ns23.domaincontrol.com.

I am not able to add another CNAME record that has a "NAME" of "www" because it conflicts with the already existing CNAME record that I am unable to edit or delete

Maybe, this is a simple fix but if someone could help me out that would be perfect. Thank you

Hi @LiveNifty,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I'm happy to provide some assistance with your domain, to ensure it gets resolved.

Prior to connecting your third-party domain to the shop, you will want to confirm that the DNS Records are correctly pointing to Shopify. These DNS Records include:

  • Point the A record to the Shopify IP address 23.227.38.65.
  • If necessary, change the Host name to the @ symbol.
  • Delete any other A records on the domain if there are any present.
  • Point the CNAME record with the name www to shops.myshopify.com

As you're not seeing the option to update the CNAME Record within your domain settings, you will want to connect with GoDaddy directly. They will be able to take a closer look and share more information with you on how to proceed.

To learn more about this, I'd recommend checking out our Connecting Third-Party Domains document as it touches on this in further detail.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Hi Blair, as LiveNifty says, GoDaddy does not allow you to modify the CNAME www entry. I've worked out why it's locked. It's due to the Shopify template. Once you remove the template, you can then modify the CNAME www record manually. It looks like the template needs fixing (I am not sure if this is a Godaddy or a Shopify problem).
