Help setting up gift message and gift wrap check boxes on product pages

I need some help. I would like to include two check boxes ( gift wrapping & gift message). So once customer clicks on them:

-the gift wrapping will display the price 

-the gift message will display a box where customer can type message 

and I would like these to be carried to checkout once they have ticked/entered one of the options. 

I tried doing this but when I add custom liquid to the product page with the code it is not displayed on cart page so the customer would have to type message again.

I was using brooklyn theme and it was very easy but now with the theme dawn I'm a bit stuck.

For gift wrapping, you can create a separate gift wrapping product, and then add it as an add-on option.

For gift message, I wrote up a guide about how to do it without paying for apps. If you look at the screenshots, you can see the note is displayed on the cart page.
