How can I add 3D pictures to my online sculpture store?

Hello there,

we're selling handmade African stone sculptures on our store. As each piece is unique we would like to give customers the best possible option to carefully consider a sculpture before buying the piece. Therefore we're exploring adding 3D-pictures, stitched together from pictures from various angles.

However I can't find any resources related to this. All topics seem to cover 3D-models as in computer-generated images, not actual photo's from a physical item.

Does anybody has any experience with this? Software, 3d-party apps, etc.? Any advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Best regards,

Arend

This is an accepted solution.

@HertogBeelden stitching multiple images together essentially means you are 3D-scanning your product. This requires high-quality scanning and likely will take time to polish the images. A decent model will need more than 25 images

Another suggestion after looking at the products you sell is to use videos instead. By recording videos, you can show the best angles of your products, and zoom in / out on particular areas in addition to utilizing lights and music to make it more enjoyable to watch.  It is also a lot simpler than trying the 3D model so it can work on any device.

Users can still pause and rewind if they want to look into specific angles.

Imagine editing your product and variant images on your local drive in realtime.

Hello Arend!

I know this is a while later... but if you are still interested in creating your own 3D models, you can use the new phone app Virtualize.

Simply take a video of your product from all sides, save to the app, and wait a few minutes for it to ping you with the finished model.

From there, you can use the viewer URL, or download the actual object and upload it to your Shopify account.

It's fast, and it's free!
