So... I'm looking to add a plain old image to a page in the new 2.0 theme editor (Dawn theme). Is it possible to do this without HTML? I see 'carousel' and 'image with text,' but no simple image all by itself. Seems odd.
Hi @wmwm
There are two different places where you can upload images for your online store:
1. Upload images on the Files page by navigating to Settings > Files and selecting Upload Files. You can refer to this document to know about File requirements and more detailed info.
2. Upload images in the theme editor
If this answer helps you resolve the problem, please mark it as a solution.

Thanks for your reply. Which block type would I use if I want to add a 400x500 pixel image completely by itself?
Hi @wmwm Hope you are doing well
From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
Find the theme that you want to edit, and then click Customize.
Use the dropdown menu to select the template you want to edit.
From the theme editor sidebar, click Image Banner.
Remove all the Blocks
Click Select Image, Under First Image and then do one of the following:
To upload an image from your computer, click Upload.
Click Select.
Click Save.

Hello, my image does not span the entire width like a banner. I want it to display at its native dimensions. Of course this is simple with HTML but I’m confused as to why there is no block in Shopify theme editor for a simple image (not a banner or carousel or something that has mandatory text on the side)
Hi @wmwm
I'm sorry to get you wrong. If you cannot get it fixed, contact Shopify Support is the best way.
Best regards.
Thank you for following up. I did not know Shopify support was available to help with theme questions like this. I asked the support representative how to add a basic image and they referred me to Image banner (incorrect — spans entire width) and then Multicolumn (incorrect — still doesn't show the image at its native dimensions). It looks like all basic images need to be hard-coded in the HTML. It's very odd that the drag and drop editor does not offer an Image section block. That functionality seems incredibly basic for the past 20 years, but it's completely missing from 2.0 theme editor. Confusing.
Try the "Collage" function. Delete all media and leave only one image block. I also feel there should be a dedicated "Image" section, but this did the trick for me.
THANK YOU! i was about to take a full on coding course to figure out how to add a simple image to the dawn theme without making it a banner. I took your advice and as far as i can tell it works exactly how i need it. Still very silly there isnt a simple image block option.. 10/10
FANTASTIC!!! My photos finally look at they should! As a photographer, displaying images as I either photographed or designed them is vital!! All my images are 1920x1080, with a couple of exceptions. This will be great for blogging and other pages too!! I never would have figured THIS out! Totally non-intuitive. I've used other programs and all display just images by themselves right outta the box. THANK YOU!
could be a work around for you. Create a new page, add the image using the general page editor thats on all pages (you can upload in native dimensions) then when on your homepage add a link (customise your homepage, add new section, add page) to homepage this will show the content of that source page on your homepage in the dimensions on the source page. I think i explained that ok(ish)
EDIT. Just double checked myself using Dawn Theme and its ok as far as i can tell, i even tried using a html embed from canva and the live embed full of links presents at the correct size so yh should be what you need
