How can I configure search to ignore spaces in part numbers?

Hi all,

I noticed in our searches without results one issue we see repeated is the use of spaces in customer searches. We deal mainly in car parts, searching part numbers is a significant proportion of how our customers are looking for items.

Traditionally the part number looks like this RTC3745 however several customer searches are for RTC 3745, the inclusion of the space ends in no results found.

Is there any way to easily solve this issue, a  few thousand items will have a similarly structured part number so writing individual search synonyms would be a lengthy task.
