How can I create a custom subfolder without prefix for an Australian market?

When adding a subfolder there is always a prefix in there like "en-" but I don't want that. If I want an Australian market, I want www.site.com/au  not www.site.com/en-au  

Is this possible?

Hi, actually the "en" means the language not the the country, for example in Canada since it is bilingual you can use www.site.com/en-ca or www.site.com/fr-ca

Otherwise you can't do it under subfolder, you have to create a subdomain for this country !

We can't do subdomain. Is there a workaround to have a subfolder for the country?

The Shopify support is basically useless, they run in circles but cannot provide a proper answer.
