I have a collection of licensed products that I want to exclude from any discount code. How can I apply a rule to this collection that makes it ineligible for discounts? I am unfamiliar with scripts and how to place them in the appropriate location on the admin so if that is the solution I will need very specific advice. Thanks!
Hey, @Kate83.
Thank you for reaching out and posting this question!
You can exclude products or collections from a discount code using the Amount off products discount type. However, while this discount type doesn't require you to work with scripts, you'd need to add the eligible products for the discount as opposed to choosing what to exclude. After that, any of the products that you didn't include will be ineligible for the discount.
I noticed that you're a new member of our Shopify Community! I'd love to hear more about your business and share some resources to help you get started. What kinds of products are you selling? Do you have a marketing plan prepared for your store?

Hi Elias, the above method is quite inefficient and I am wondering if Shopify will eventually create a new way to exclude items from discounts?
For example, I have 400 products in my store and I want to exclude only 5 from all discount. If I am to follow your recommendations, then I would have to continuously update the collection for "eligible products" each time I add a new product in the store, instead of simply excluding the 5 non-eligible items and being done with it. This will create a never ending collection that is there for just that one purpose.
It would be much more efficient, for example, if on all discount options I could always opt to exclude certain products or exclude certain collections from a discount.
From my research I think a lot of people would highly value this feature on Shopify. Thanks
@awarehouse , this use case was one of the primary reasons for our app, Discount Bot.
You can apply discounts to your whole store but choose to exclude some collections, products and/or sale items. In fact, you can also include / exclude "generic" product variants, customer tags etc. for a truly specific discount.
Also, once created, you wouldn't have to keep updating the discount every time you add new products to your store.
Here's a quick setup in the admin:
If you have any questions, please let me know.
I have just installed the app. I couldn't get to work. It kept telling me that I have no subscription and when I click on the link that is supposed to take me to where I select a billing plan, it takes me instead to the discount page.
Can you please try selecting "Billing" from the menu on the left? We also mailed you from our support email.
Hi @wdoukmak, maybe Alpha Sale could do the trick for you - we've added various flexible exclusion settings (collections, vendors, tags, etc.):
Now you can exclude an entire collection from any discount code with the Savify app https://apps.shopify.com/savify.
Click “Create discount”.
Check “Order discount”.
In “Discount settings”, enter your code (for example “SUPERDEAL”) and set the discount value.
Scroll to “Discount applies to”, choose “Selected products only”.
Set “Selection behavior” to “Skip this discount for the selected items below”.
Tick “Collections”, click “+ Set Values”, and select your licensed collection.
Save.
The code will apply to every other product, while anything in that collection stays full-price.
