How can I handle 301 redirects when migrating a store with '/shop' in the URL?

I would be grateful if anyone can advise me how to deal with 301 redirects, as part of store migration, when my existing store has /shop as part of the url structure.

Shopify states that urls which “begin with”  /shop cannot be redirected using shopify 301 redirects. On my existing non-shopify website the /shop part of the url is part way through the overall url for every page on the site. So does that mean I can still use 301 redirects (because the /shop is not at the start of the url) or does it mean that I cannot?
