How to differentiate removed items from an order when we export the CSV file? it shows as an order and difficult to locate once we export the document
Yes, I second this. I rely heavily on exporting lists of orders for my own reporting.
The problem is this case:
This has caused significant issues with my reporting when using csv order exports. A solution could be to manually edit the csv export before using it for reports, but that requires that I know of and can find all the orders that might've been changed. This is not a realistic workaround.
This is an example, a customer got 4 rain barrels and then wanted to change to 3. We edited the order and made the refund for the 1. The order shows on the csv export in three lines, but the 4 rain barrels and 3 rain barrels have no distinction of which had been removed.
Shopify development team, Please fix.
Shopify users, Like this if you have experienced the same.
@dooug did you happen to find a solution to this? I'm having the exact same issue.
No, I just have to look through my orders with partial refunds etc and do manual adjustments. Not ideal .
Same issue here. A costumer orders 10 blue bags for €100. After the order, I remove two blue bags and add two red bags. Exactly the same price. The order amount stys the same, €100.
Now the nonsense: the orders export csv shows €120 for this order. There is no way to see the removed items. But why are the added items there then? In my returns report, the two blue bags I removed are also not there. Sorry but this doesn't make any sense. Please shopify, fix this! Just don't list the removed items in the orders export csv!!!
3 years later. still the same problem.
report toaster works quite well around this. free version (requires shopify basic) lets you run the reports but no export. reasonable monthly fee. solved my reporting issue in 15 minutes. not affiliated but definitely see the value.
Hi there, @bradnic. Thanks for taking the time to follow up on this older thread regarding the Order CSV export still showing products that had been removed or changed within the order. My name is Imogen. It's good to meet you.
We've received a fair amount of feedback around this issue with the Order CSV, and our developers are aware that addressing this functionality would be helpful to merchants who rely on these export for things like reporting. I've gone ahead and passed your comments on this thread along to our developers for their consideration. I can't promise what the outcome may be from sharing your feedback, but you can trust that our Developers are aware of this thread, and the value this would bring to merchants. Thanks!

delighted to hear it. Shopify has been pretty amazing for my business. This is honestly the first real show stopper system-wise I've run into. There's just no way to get an accurate pending fulfillment report from the orders export CSV because of this problem. Definitely needs developer attention.
Hi Imogen,
Just to 2nd all the comments; this issue is significant for us as well. I literally spent about 30 hours this past week trying to figure out why our entire 2024 Shopify account was out of balance. After a painstaking comparison, I discovered the issue of the removed Items being exported in the order file and appearing as valid purchases. So we had overstated our revenue and/or cogs all year (and probably 2023 as well) and the accountant was creating offsetting balancing issues to account for the lack of payment. Adding that to the Facebook adjustments for sales tax, it has become quite a lengthy reconciliation for our accountant each month. Having the developers address this issue is very much needed, so thank you. Also, the removed items currently get sent to Shipstation as well, so they really aren't removed except in notation only. Thanks so much for passing on the issue. We appreciate it very much and look forward to a solution. Julie
16/08/2024 The issue is still same. I have been working manually. This is simple thing but shopify cannot resolve. Don't know what is stopping them to update this. I have been using shopify from last 3 months, before we were using wordpress woocommerce. There were issues technical part so we switched to shopify and now I found so many small things shopify cannot fix, especially with respect to removed items and adjusting sales of current month when we update in last month orders. Monthly subscription fees and transactions fees are deducted without any issue but they cannot fix their problems since so many years (atleast more than 2years since this thread started) 😞
Common guys do something, you cannot take a whole decade to do this, otherwise display disclaimers when people are buying shopify that you have these issues. Sorry for this but I am accountant and I have to waste weeks of time fixing reports
