How do I delete the second page, 'default collection'? Not needed.

This is an accepted solution.
The /collection url page does not impact the loadtimes of other pages.
You can try unpublishing it from the online sales channel
https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/collections/make-collections-available
Though if there's no products why have the collection; Delete the collection > no page or settings fiddling.
Alternative is to setup a url redirect to send anyone visiting that url somewhere else on the site, but if you forget you did that later on there will be problems wondering why a collection page isn't working.

"Default collection" is showing the template collection.liquid design used for every collection on a store by default.
A theme wont work properly if you delete those templates.
But what is the actual goal?
If there's no "collection" concept for a stores business model simply do not create collections or link to them in content or menus.

I have 7 collections on website. For example the 'residential' collection has a selection of 9 products (exterior house wash, driveway, roof, etc.)
But for christmas light installation collection there isn't any products. yes i do residential and commercial but they are billed the same amount, nothin different.
i want the middle page removed for two reasons; less of a hassle and website speed.
