How can I resize slideshow images without cropping in the North theme?

Hi,

I'm using the north them. On the slideshow, the pictures are way too big. I need to chose the "adapt to image" option, because I have horizontal and vertical photos and I don't want them to be cropped. However, by choosing "adapt to image", the pictures are so big, they don't fit in the page.

How can I change that without my picture being cropped? Is there a way to add banners maybe to the sides of the page?
