How can I set different product view defaults for desktop and mobile?

Hi Everyone.  I am wanting to get some help with simply changing the product view deafult and having a different one for desktop and mobile.

Currently both views are the grid view. See picture below.

I am wanting desktop to remain this way but mobile default to List view. See image below.

This is easily changed by clicking the icons in the very top left of image. But I am unsure how to make this happen automatically depending on the device the customer is using.
