How can I set up quantity-based shipping rates on a budget?

Hi, I am considering moving from magento.
Some of the basic things in Magento, do not seem to be available.
We currently have fixed shipping prices set up as 1-2 items = $7, 2-9 items = $10, 10+ = free.

Shopify doesn't have qty based rates.
How can i do it (without spending $30 a month extra)

Hi @Scoopmc

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you!

While you're absolutely right that you cannot set shipping rates according to the number of products, you can create a rate based on order weight. Therefore a possible workaround would be to create weight ranges! In other words, instead of a rate that says "1-2 items = $7", you could say that 2 items will normally weigh a max of 1kg, so "0.1kgs - 1kg" will cost $7:

24-15-39136-9351

And then you could create another rate for "1.01kg - 2kg" for $10, and then another for the  "10+ = free shipping" using Shopify's Guide to Free Shipping Rates.

It's great that you're considering Shopify! You might like The Official Shopify Tutorial for 2021: Set Up Your Store the Right Way:

Thanks, but that's just too complicated with over 1000 sku's of varying weights.
I am trying to make the transition from magento seamless for our customers, so to change the rates doesn't work.

The 2 basic functions that are obviously missing (compared to other ecommerce options) are shipping rates based on qty, and only having one automatic discount level.
By the time i add these as apps, it's an expensive monthly bill, compared to others.

Presently, it is only possible to create shipping rates according to weight or product price. Anything more custom than that would require the help of a third-party shipping app.

Meanwhile, I'd like to know more about what you mean when you say "only having one automatic discount level". Are you referring to the fact that "you can have only one active automatic discount at any given time"?

If so, I understand your position and will be sure to pass your feedback on internally. However, for context, we do not allow multiple automatic discounts in an effort to avoid profit loss for store owners using our platform.

Hi Andrew,

I was trying to set up; "buy 3 get 5%", "buy 5 or more get 10%".

Once again, a basic feature in other programs, but requires a app.

already i need to bay $30 a month on top in apps, on top of the $29 a month for shopify.

On the surface, shopify looks good value, but it's comaprable/more expensive to everything else once you add what should be basic inclusions
