I have two additional custom metafields for my products aside from the standard description (features and specs) and I need to know if there is a way to include this information when I do a CSV product export. I need to be able to batch update this info because it is different for all products and it's easier to do this from a CSV file.

This is an accepted solution.
Hi there - Shopify does not have a way to include metafields as part of the product export. There are a number of reporting apps that can do that such as Report Toaster, Better Reports, Advanced Reports, etc.

That is not correct. When I export the products from a duplicate product file from my development store I have the metafields in the csv. When I export from the client's live store the exact same defined metafields are not there!
Maybe you have an app installed on your store and not theirs?
I'm also seeing metafields included in the native Shopify export. Unless I am mistaken. I do have Matrixify installed, but when I use this export button (here) I am seeing metafields.
Hi, are you certain metafields are not included in the native shopify export? Maybe that was true at one time but I am observing that they do seem to be included in exports. I have Matrixify installed as well, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't change the plain "Export" button I'm seeing.
Hi @lettucejake
Indeed you are correct. Having any app installed in the store, including Matrixify, should not change the default Shopify Export functionality.
The reply from @CloudlabSam was from 2023 when indeed native export did not contain Metafields as it was added only few months ago.
If the Metafield Definitions are set up in the store and you can see those Metafields manually in admin, then they should also be included in the native Shopify export. I suggest reaching out to Shopify support directly to look into why the specific store does not export Metafields in Shopify export if they are the same definitions as your other store. Or you can use the Matrixify app to export/import your data as our exported Product file will contain all the Product and Variant Metafields, as some Metafield types are not currently exported by Shopify native export.
Hi @Renars , regarding this, I see that it exports some metafields but is it possible that the JSON type ones are not exported?
Hello
If you mean Shopify native export, then it is not specifically metafields containing JSON code. Found that Shopify does have this documented on exact Metafield types that Shopify native export includes in the file.
It seems like metafield types such as Rich Text are not included in Shopify export as well as any reference type metafields (file reference, product reference, etc.) and possibly others. You can see the exact list of exported metafield types in the Shopify manual linked above.
Some Metafields that are stored as JSON in Shopify backend are exported, such as volume, money, and others, so it is not specifically about the JSON code.
