How do you edit the care instruction, materials and dimensions sections for each product in Craft?

I’m trying to edit products within the Craft theme and can’t seem to see where you add text to the ‘Materials’, ‘Dimensions’ and ‘Care Instructions’ sections!

Hi,

I've tried this, however when I put information in each of these sections for each product, its changing it for all products instead of the specific product I am editing, what am I doing wrong? 😞

Thanks

Hi Alison,

The same thing happened for me - luckily my care instructions apply to all my products. I’ve had to work around and add generic info to the materials and I’ve hidden the dimension section. I’ve added the dimensions in the product description.

Hope thats helpful - good luck with your store!

Hi!

Yes, I managed to figure it out. You have to create metafields for your products and like it to the default product template.

Then it pulls through to each of your products at the bottom and you enter your specific details for each product listing.

Hope this helps. 🙂

Could you screen shot an example of how you created a meta field definition. I am somewhat confused as to what specific info to put into the new definition. Also how to you "like" it to the product template?

1) On your store dashboard search for "metafields"

thaiszochi_1-1656512400958.png

 2) create new metafield "Materials"

3) field will show up on your product detail admin page

thaiszochi_2-1656512471057.png

4) On your Customize screen, associate this metafield to the slot you want in your template.

Hope it helps, this was the solution that best suited my needs as my products are made of different materials.

This solution worked for me, altho for some reason, when I created a metafield with type "URL", it was not available to associate with the theme's slot shown above. I believe only field types that match the criteria "text" will be available on that specific part of the template.

Hi, there is no "default product" or "product information" on my theme. Any suggestions? Maybe it's a theme issue? But still, when i preview my product, the materials, care info, etc are still there, but empty! Can you help? Thanks

Sales Channels > Customize (Green button under your chosen theme) > Products (from the drop done at the top of the page default "home page") > Default Product (if you need different info for different sections, create templates for each) > Products information (you will see the sections under this on the left panel)

If you do not see the info you may need to created this section of the theme

Sorry if too simple and step by step but hope it helps someone

Have you clicked straight onto products or gone to Sales Channels and Online Store first?

The example below only has 2 variations at the moment Default and one for rings with different content for each group

Hi, I can't even try to do this as I don't seem to have a products link where you are showing in your photo...please advise! No Products button or linkNo Products button or link

The best solution I could find was to create new templates for each group, e.g. I am looking at a jewellery website so a template for Rings with Ring Sizes and a template for Necklaces with chain sizes etc

You do it in the metafield section. I believe the answer is on the thread.
How do you edit care instructions and dimensions.

It is a product template and not a product, both completely different with different content

I was having the same issue, here what worked for me

go to store/themes/actions/edit codes/customize theme/

"top page dropdown" change from home page to products/default product.

Hi so I do see this as helpful but when you update the information there it automatically adds it to

every single product even tho not all of them are the same materials. How do you fix that?

In case anyone else comes here first for a solution and is confused like me, I am attaching the whole explanation including the second part of the solution that you will need to know to make this all work. Yes, you will need to create a metafield as explained above, but that will not simply connect it to the existing Materials/Care Instructions/Dimensions sections. Here is the entire explanation I found on another post (https://community.shopify.com/c/shopify-design/craft-theme-showing-dimensions-materials-care-instruc...😞

In order to add different Dimensions, Materials and Care Instructions for each product, you first need to create metafield and then connect it with your theme setting to display metafield on your product pages:

  • Create Metafield by going to Setting > Metafields > Products > Add definition > fill out the required info.
  • Go to Products > Within each product page, scroll down to the bottom and you'll see the metafield you've created before, then fill out the specific content for each.
  • Navigate to Online Store > Theme > Customize
  • Select Products then Default Product from the page selector at the top
  • Within the sidebar menu, click on the Materials section > Row content >  click on the Insert Dynamic Source as the photo attached below > Select the associated metafiled

mystichairwear_0-1659757675534.png

  • Finally, hit Save
  • Do the same with Dimensions
  • For Care Instructions, if it's the same for all products, simply enter the content directly in the Row Content.

hi - thanks this seems to be the most comprehensive description of what I need to do - however I am failing at first hurdle- I have no Metafields in my settings menu - yet all my products have Materials, dimensions and care instructions listed - all currently empty and no apparent way to edit / add information to those fields.

Any ideas to resolve?

I'm having the same issue.  I changed the material to "bamboo" and now it has changed all the products on my website to bamboo instead of just the individual item.  I don't see a solution yet.

I am having this exact same issue - it's driving me nuts - cause it changes everything!!!  Trying to search where I can find the solution!  All the products are not the same and do not have the same materials/ingredients!

Can you do what I did and create new templates for different groups, e.g. a template for Bamboo with the material info for Bamboo and then select this template for all Bamboo products. I guess you could also have info about bamboo products and the benefits on the template also?

Perhaps a long way around but possible solution
