How do you run report by product type?

I am trying to run a sales report for our store's product types, but when I go into the sales report and select the product type filter, it will only show me the sales report by item...can anyone help me with this?

You can start with the Sales by Product report and edit the columns to remove the Product Title and Product Vendor. This will leave you with the report grouped by product type.

Instead of adding a filter, you need to add a new column (Product Type column) and remove other dimensions columns (Product Name, SKU, etc), in this case, the report will be grouped only by Product Type.

Also, you can Advanced Reports app, where Sales by Product type is one of the built-in report across other 50+ reports.
